Why We Do What We Do
I am Griffith Tonkin.
I'm one of the partners here at The Arthofer & Tonkin Law Offices.

Today, I want to discuss "Why we do what we do here."
When public servants like firefighters or police officers talk about their work, you'll often hear that they do it because they like to help people.
We do what we do here because we like to help people.
Today, I'm going to share a very personal story about a case that I handled a number of years ago.
It explains exactly why we are personal injury attorneys.
I recently walked into a large home improvement store, and I recognized one of the workers.
I couldn't immediately place her face, but ultimately I did.
And I remembered who she was about the same time she remembered me.
I was there with my wife and kids.
My wife saw tears develop in this lady's eyes, and I realized who she was.
I asked how her son was doing, and I called him by name.
See, I got to represent her little boy when he was run over while trying to walk safely to her car from school.
Now, that lawsuit resulted in significant changes being made to that school.
Kids were being asked to walk through busy parking lots, across busy driveways, and across busy roadways to get to their waiting parents.
Kids of all ages, down to kindergarteners, were asked to do this without proper supervision, crosswalks, or crossing guards.
As a result of our litigation, we changed how the school did business.
We made it safer for all of the other kids.
This mom and this little boy were brave enough to stand up and say, "Not again, not to another kid."
We litigated.
We made those changes.

And I'm happy to report that, even though it's been a number of years, this little boy has fully recovered from his injuries and is near a high school senior.
