David vs. Goliath

Hi, I’m Griff Tonkin of the Arthofer & Tonkin Law Offices. You’re probably familiar with the biblical story of David versus Goliath. David was a shepherd boy, probably a young teenager, and he took on the largest of the Philistine warriors, said to be over nine feet tall. Despite the massive size advantage of Goliath, David carried the day with just a sling and a few smooth stones.

When you’ve been involved in a personal injury accident, you’re more like David, and the insurance companies are more like Goliath. Today, I want to share a story about one of our clients who found himself up against one of the largest insurance companies in the land. Our client had stopped at a crosswalk, activated the lights for the crosswalk, and properly began to walk his bike through the crosswalk. Unfortunately, the driver didn’t see him despite the flashing lights, the fluorescent signs the painted crosswalk and hit him, causing severe injuries to our client. Well, the insurance company for the driver that hit our client dared to demand that our client pay the insurance company $900 for the damage to their insured’s vehicle, that is, the dent in the hood and the broken grill, that our client’s body caused to this other truck. Had the insurance company not made this foolish mistake, our client may have just dealt with his injuries and his hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills, but instead, when the insurance company came after him for a relatively small sum of $900, he called our office. We were able to represent him, and ultimately we recovered a settlement of nearly a third of a million dollars for our client who was seriously injured in this accident.

Our client got picked on by Goliath, but he hired David, and we were able to carry the day for our client.
